What once adorned the castles of Kings and Queens as a symbol of wealth, power and sophistication, evolved into a feminine fashion statement that signifies confidence and nonconformity, dating back to the 1920’s where leopard fur coats were in high demand.

Through the decades it’s had many more than nine lives, for example the 1950’s saw leopard print become popular in mass-produced lingerie and swimwear collections, contributing to the pattern’s association with female sexuality. It then gave way to androgyny and rebellion in the 70’s as the print was favoured by none other than David Bowie. And would we really (really) want anything to do with leopard print if it weren’t for Scary Spice’s infamous jumpsuits in the 90’s?

For 2021, leopard print is set to take the spotlight once again. This time, it’s all down to wanderlust. After months of being stuck at home, it’s our longing to travel and explore that is taking over and setting the trends. With the wild pattern being synonymous with the desire to escape and experience exotic places and their climates, injecting it into your wardrobe could evoke that summer holiday feeling!
